Asylum Rights
Campaigns and Advocacy
Each year the Forum runs campaign groups based on the themes of the Refugee Charter for Manchester.
Basic Rights
The Basic Rights Group works to improve asylum seekers' experience of the reporting and detention process in Greater Manchester.
Key Objectives:- To raise awareness within refugee communities about asylum seekers' rights and UKBA policy within reporting and detention process.
- To collect evidence about asylum seekers' experiences of reporting and detention.
- To raise awareness with UKBA staff in Greater Manchester about the needs and experiences of refugee communities and change UKBA reporting and detention processes for the benefit of refugee communities.
- To highlight the impact of UKBA/Home Office policy on refugee communities with policy makers and push for change.
- To monitor the outcomes of our work.
Meetings with UK Border Agency Staff
Refugee community leaders continue to meet with UK Border Agency staff and lobby for changes to their policies and procedures. The Basic Rights group holds regular consultation and feedback events with community members who are reporting at Dallas Court to monitor some of the changes that staff at Dallas Court say have been introduced, to collect evidence and to consult on priorities.
