MRSN is excited to be part of a partnership of 5 voluntary organisations funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for 3 years to provide free training and support to Manchester residents who want to volunteer in our advice and support services. The other partner organisations are Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, Centrepoint-YPSF, Manchester Mind and Cheetham Hill Advice Centre.

We have developed our advice work training programme to enable volunteers to gain the skills and confidence needed to carry out a range of roles within MVAP. These skills are transferable and can open up other opportunities through personal development and increased knowledge. Training opportunities and support are ongoing whilst you are volunteering.

What we need from our volunteers:

Be willing to learn / Have a desire to help people / Be committed, punctual and reliable / Be able to communicate in English / Carry out all work in an impartial and non-judgemental way / Comply with policies including confidentiality, equality of opportunity and Data Protection.

What you’ll get:

Free training and learning programme / Day-to-day supervision by advice supervisors / On-going support and training / The skills, experience and confidence to move on to paid work or further training / Travel and other expenses.

MVAP roles include:

Receptionist / Digital Support Worker – help people make online applications and register and bid for social housing / Advice Workers / Advice Support Assistant – help Advisers to undertake a variety of tasks to progress cases and gather feedback from clients / Interpreters / Accompany people to appointments / Admin / Recruitment & training assistant / Immigration assistant.
