Check in and chat buddy scheme

Our check in and chat project supports people experiencing the effects of loneliness and social isolation.

We also offer the opportunity for clients to practice English conversation skills?

A group of volunteers from Manchester Refugee Support Network (MRSN) have come together to provide this service. Unfortunately, due to a decrease in funding we are not able to take on new clients or recruit new volunteers. Therefore we are only able to maintain the buddy schemes already set up.

We support clients of MRSN and our partner agencies to ensure that nobody is left isolated or without support. We don’t ask for anything in return, we just believe in being a friendly voice at the other end of the phone.

Our volunteers at MRSN and are known to us and have been interviewed before we pair them with a client. All volunteers are required to complete an application form and agree to specific personal safety checks.

Disclaimer

We are not experts on Coronavirus and can only offer help within reason. We will direct you to the government & public health websites. If you need medical advice, please use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service at 111.nhs.uk/covid-19, or if you have no internet access, call NHS 111 from your phone. In a medical emergency, dial 999.

I strongly believe the Check in and Chat scheme to be completely multifunctional. The scheme can help relieve feelings of social isolation whilst also being able to develop skills that can pave the way to a successful and happy life regardless of a pandemic.
